The hit series Jujutsu Kaisen has been appraised for its realistic and diverse representation of female characters, especially for the shounen genre. But how inclusive is this representation really? Join us on a philosophical deep-dive into the different gendered elements of JJK! What does the sisterhood between Mai and Maki signify? Is Yuuji a prime example of a protagonist with a healthy masculine identity? How do the patriarchal structures of the world of JJK affect the lives of the characters? How groundbreaking is it for some of the characters to have ambiguous gender identities?
The program will build upon the concepts and literature of feminist philosophy. However, prior understanding of philosophy is not required whatsoever and we encourage the audience to take part in the conversation. While the program will be held in English, you’re welcome to ask questions and give comments in Finnish as well.
The program will include both anime and manga spoilers, although we will only discuss the plot of the series when it’s relevant.
